Somewhat tongue in cheek as I know he has lots of reasons for wanting to move to Texas, but I found this interesting and a little bit amusing.
REGION: Stone proposes secession
Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Stone has long criticized California’s leaders for the state’s fiscal woes.
Now, he wants to take things a step further.
Stone proposed late Thursday that Riverside County take the lead in pushing for 13 counties to secede from the state.
Fed up with high taxes and continued raids on local government funds, Stone said the counties of Riverside, Imperial, San Diego, Orange, San Bernardino, Kings, Kern, Fresno, Tulare, Inyo, Madera, Mariposa and Mono should form the new state of South California.
The merits of such a move aside, the legal challenges are probably insurmountable. Still, it shows that California is not the monolith that a lot of people think it is.
Those counties compose a pretty good part of California, almost 50% of the land mass. Although likely verging on impossible that this will happen, I think it shows that there is deep frustration among some of the politicians and residents of some parts of the state. If nothing else, this might spark some debate over how finances are managed in the Golden State.

I support this idea. Split north from south.
This idea has been kicked around several times, and every time it gets more and more serious. I happen to live in one of these counties and I share the frustration. The cultural differences between my town and places like Sacramento, LA, and San Fransisco are extreme, making the legislator’s job difficult. Geographically, there are more areas that tend to lean to a more conservative mindset and enjoy smaller government and less control from the top. However, the biggest problem, is the 3 communities I mentioned that actually make up the majority of the state’s population. Is their ideas and way of life wrong? I don’t know. But I do know that it’s different than mine and I’m tired of being forced to live by their rules while my beliefs and wishes are completely disregarded.
It’s frustrating when all we can really do is vote, and sit back and watch the “majority” continue to increase the cost of living, and doing business. They continue to hack away at our freedom at such a rate that it’s hard to keep up with. We essentially have a vacuum caused by people and businesses fleeing the state. We have an ever increasing debt, crime rate, and level of abuse of our government aid programs. And what is our legislator busy doing? Passing bills that restrict internet ammo sales, require BB guns to be painted bright colors, enforce our state sales tax on people buying goods online from other states, and hack away at government worker’s benefits.
I’m not so sure that the proposed split is actually what’s best for us, but it’s a start. Either way, I’ll be gone before anything happens, and hopefully before half of the billed mentioned actually become law.
I understand completely. It’s why people are feeling not only California, but New York, Massachusetts, and other “blue” states in general. It’s why I’d follow in your foot steps if I could.
Just think of me as the Bill O’Reilly of bloggers!
Well then who would be the Glenn Beck?
Rogue Medic, who else!
