I missed posting on the death of Country Music legend Kitty Wells when it happened last week. MS Wells had a long career and was a pioneer for other women who would follow her success in Country Music. I doubt we’ll see her likes again soon, if ever.
Her first big hit, the one that established her, was “It Wasn’t God That Made Honky Tonky Angels” was a musical retort to Hank Thompson’s “Wild Side of Life”.

And here is Hank Thompson’s recording of “Wild Side of Life”

“It Wasn’t God That Made Honky Tonk Angels” went to #1 on the Billboard Country Charts, as did Thompson’s early “Wild Side of Life”. More importantly it established Wells as Country Music star and paved the way for greats like Patsy Cline, Connie Smith, Dolly Parton, and Loretta Lynn.

I ‘vaguely’ remember her. and yes she was one of the early legends in the female Country genre!
