When You’ve Lost Jay Leno…

Leno is a comedian, but a very popular one with a very popular late night show. This joke got a lot of laughs from his audience. Somehow, I don’t think President Obama thought it was funny, I know I don’t.

Can’t tell from text, but It has been many years since Leno was “very popular”. Is that part of the joke?

I haven’t checked his ratings lately, but I believe he’s still tops the 11:30 slot. Remember a few years ago he “retired” from that slot in favor of Conan O’Brien, who promptly bombed. Leno has beaten ABC and CBS for years. So, if he’s not popular, the other guys must be hated.

I would imagine Leno would take big swipes at Obama, especially since Obama has appeared on David Letterman’s show a few times including very recently. The sad part is, Leno really isn’t all that wrong…

I think he’s been on Leno in the past. Leno is a nice guy (I’ve met him), although he’s also more liberal than conservative. Still, his swipes are generally more even handed than Letterman’s. I’ve never been a Letterman fan, but people who used to be tell me that he stopped being funny and now is just bitter and cranky.

I am impressed you guys can stay up late enough to watch any of these guys. If it weren’t for the DVR, YouTube, and Hulu I wouldn’t see any television that happens after 9 pm central.

I’m only up that late when I’m working, I catch a lot of this on You Tube and various blogs.

Leno is an entertainer, and knows his audience- and therefore knows that at least some of them don’t like Obama. He isn’t being even-handed, he’s just trying to not piss off viewers.
