Citizen Peg

October 18, 2012 by tooldtowork 8 Comments

Today was an interesting and exciting day for me. Nothing to do with work, something more important. I drove my dear friend Peg to a public building in a city near to where we live where she did something extraordinary.

She raised her right and took an oath of allegiance to the United States of America and foreswore allegiance to any other nation, king, potentate, or sovereign.

In other terms, she became a Citizen of the United States of America.

It’s been a long time coming and family and friends are all proud of her.

After that we had a celebratory bowl of clam chowder.

After that, I drove her back to town and we stopped at Town Hall where she registered to vote.

What a great day.

Please extend our welcome and congratulations. The United States is still a viable place.

    Too Old,

    Now you have to:
    1) take Peg to the shooting range
    2) help her with licensing if applicable
    3) help her buy her first firearm

She could have had a LTC in MA for years, citizenship is not a requirement. However, her husband, also a very close friend has owned guns longer than I have. Her daughter and son in law live next door and they have guns as well. Her 12 year old grandson doesn’t have any real guns. Yet. I expect when his dad judges him to be mature enough, he’ll be going to the range. Peg’s one reason for becoming a citizen after living most of her life here was Nov. 6, 2012. I’ll let you guess who she’s planning to vote for!

I can’t even make fun of her for being a “Slush Back” and swimming across from Canada any more. ;)
